Week 7 - Google Drive in the Classroom - Google Forms

Google Drive and Apps in the Classroom - Part 1: Google Forms

I am excited to launch a blog series about how to use Google Drive and Apps in the classroom!

This is the first of ten posts over the next two months. Although I have used Google Drive for personal use over the last several years, I have limited experience using it in class. The district I previously worked in used Microsoft Office 365, for teacher and student collaboration. The local district I moved into, have done a little bit of subbing for, and plan to work in within the next couple of years, uses Google Drive for teachers and students. Needless to say, I have some learning to do.This series is designed to aid my exploration of the potentials in the classroom, help me keep a record of them, and gain feedback from you all as I go.

One of the few ways I have previously used Google Drive in my classroom was using Google Forms. I used these in my reading intervention to gather survey data and to create online reading experiences to try to help transition students to our online form of state testing.

After using a Google Form earlier this summer, I noticed a new feature that did not exist when I originally used these a few years back. There is now a way to create Quizzes and Assessments! This is definitely something I hope to use in the future and am interested in keeping an eye on.

Here is a short tutorial showing all of the new features, enjoy!

  1. Katy, this is great! We are piloting Google Classroom in the 6th grade this year and I am excited to get started! I have used Google Drive personally for years and love it! I can't wait for my students to be able to collaborate on Google docs and slides. I love Google forms too. It is great that they have added the quiz feature. Did you know you can also differentiate on Google forms?

    1. That is so great that you will be using Google Classroom next year! I do think the amount of collaboration opportunities are so huge. I hope the quiz feature works well for you! I did't know about the differentiation. I used them about 4 years ago and not much since then, I will have to play around a bit more.

  2. This is much easier than what I have had to do in the past. There was an add on called Fluberoo that you had to add to your drive that would grade your assignments and quizzes but it was kind of restrictive. I will have to try this out when I go back to school next week!

    1. I have seen references to Fluberoo but have not used it myself. I hope that this new feature with Google Forms might be helpful for you.

  3. Wow, this new feature makes me excited. I often used forms for quizzes, but would use the add on or just add it up myself. Going to have to check this out for the fall!

    1. Yes, in my usage in the past, I did all of the calculating. Hopefully this will allow some efficiency for you and free up that time to use somewhere else!

  4. Yay for quizzes in Google!! Our school is a Google school and Flubaroo is something my students love because it sends them their grades and the answers to review, but definitely takes time to set up and has flaws, of course. I will be spending the next two weeks getting ready for some new curriulum changes and new technology additions, so I will try this out.

  5. Oh how this saved me last year. Sitting in a PD meeting last year, somebody told us about this. I tried, and I became hooked! It makes grading google forms so much easier!
